Home History Care Sources

Berners have a tendency to shed due to their double coat of hair. They have a tricolored coat consisting of three colors: black, white, and orange/tan. They require weekly brushing, but when shedding season comes around brushing can become a daily habit. Since they are from Switzerland hot living areas are not as normal to them as colder temperatures. Hotter temperatures can cause heat stroke so air conditioning is the best thing for them.

These dogs need lots of movement and are not afraid to go on a hike or two. Without exercise and proper food intake, it can cause obesity. Berners are dogs who can't be left alone for too long because they could suffer from separation anxiety due to getting attached very easily and are known to be very good with young children. They can be easy droolers so bring a towel.

In conclusion, Bernese Mountain dogs are particularly good dogs to have in a family household or individuals to have because they are always there to love. They are very good-natured and do not require much care because they are easily trained. Dogs are incredibly special animals and great companions.
